Amazing Exhibit by Kim Arden
I just returned from an amazing exhibition by an amazing artist and teacher, Kimberly Arden. Have I used the word "amazing" too often? You be the judge.
A couple of things about this adventure, besides the artist and her art, occurred to me on the way home: 1.) I only had to drive for 10 minutes, to downtown Toledo; 2.) I think that this is the first time that I've seen another polymer artist's work up-close, in person; and 3.) Point number 2 makes me a bit sad...
On to Kimberly's work :- the gallery did a fantastic job of displaying her pieces to advantage. 20 North Gallery had Kim's necklaces in frames on the wall - stunning! The artist herself was doing a demo, and deftly assembled a coral flower petal cane before my very eyes. I'm not a good caner. I was blown away by both the demo and the finished works surrounding me. Instead of my inadequate descriptions of her pieces, check out her website.
One of the important points that I took away from the exhibit as a polymer artist - maybe I don't have to sand/polish everything! I loved the contrast of finishes in Kim's work - matte, semi-gloss and only a few really shiny bits.
Thank you, Kim, for sharing your gift with the rest
